About
The Paediatric Virtual Ward is a Nurse led service with consultant oversight that provides acute care to children and young people who would otherwise be in hospital. Children and young people with many different conditions could be cared for on the Virtual Ward.
What we do
The Paediatric Virtual Ward provide remote monitoring for up to 3 times a day. We use technology in the form of an app for parents/carers/patients to upload the patient’s vital signs and ask bespoke questions about their illness/condition. Despite the ‘virtual’ name, the Paediatric Virtual Ward include face to face visits to complete assessments, support, education and IV antibiotics.
How to access the service
Patients are referred from clinicians from the acute setting- ward area, Paediatric Assessment Unit, Emergency Department, Urgent treatment centre and the walk in centre and from primary care settings- GP’s.
