Wolverhampton Young Carers

It’s not always easy being a young carer, you often have to take on adult responsibilities that can affect your friendships and relationships, learning and development, health and wellbeing or future career choices.

Adult Social Care, Carer Support team can offer: 

  • information and advice about being a young carer
  • a seasonal newsletter about upcoming events and activities
  • an opportunity to make new friends and have fun away from your caring role
  • a free membership to The Way Youth Zone

They support young carers up to the age of 18, as well as adult carers who help care for someone within their family. This may be because of a physical disability, mental health condition, learning disability, substance misuse, sensory impairment or any long-term illness or condition.

Sibs – Supporting siblings

Sibs is the UK charity for children and adults who are growing up with or have grown up with a disabled brother or sister. They provide information, support and training on sibling issues for adult siblings, young siblings, parents and professionals.

They also offer an online information service for children and young people, who have a brother or sister who is disabled, has special educational needs or a serious long-term condition.


YMCA

A local charity, that’s part of the largest youth organisation in the world. They support people to grow and develop in Mind Body & Spirit. Providing childcare, housing for young workers, supported accommodation, employability, health and social enterprises projects.


Sense

Sense is here to support people who are deaf, blind and have complex disabilities to feel connected and included. Sense provides activities, wellbeing support, peer- peer buddying and more.


CP friends (Cerebral Palsy Friends)

Richie has created a CP Friends group which is a popular feature of The Hub at Ashmore Park. Fortnightly social events for adults with cerebral palsy and similar disabilities. Join Rickie for a chat – tea and cakes are included.


The Way Youth Zone – SEND Squad

Offer sessions to all abilities but the buzz of the Youth Zone can be too overwhelming for some young people. Therefore, Saturday morning session are especially for families who have young people with additional needs up to the age of 25 years who prefer a calm environment to get involved in activities. Families get a chance to spend some quality time doing art, music, sport, quizzes, dance, sensory room and much more.
